The Martin Guitar Project

Many decorated or "painted"  guitars have images imposed on the guitar's surface without regard to integrating the image with the actual character of the guitar.

For this project I wanted my 30 years of backpacking in the canyons of Utah to merge with all the elements of this guitar to create a fully integrated design.  This guitar comes closest to my experience of standing in front of a 12th century dwelling or a 9thC. Petroglyph.  The Anasazi's art-making is unforgettable.  A window into an ancient culture's religiious experience.

This guitar has a tremendous projection and a tone that accurately reflects the vastness of the American Southwest.

Many thanks to Tim Teel, Head of Instrument  Design, Linda Davis-Wallen, Wood Buyer, Tracy Cox, Inlay Artist, and all the others at Martin for giving me an amazing opportunity.  Peter Cree
