Art and Woodworking - I've always thought something was lost when woodworking began to over-utilize the machinery of the industrial age. As a Fine artist -.a painter also working on carved surfaces - I began to see the possibilities of using everyday objects as the canvas - rather than the usual flat rectangular surface most often associated with painting. This viewpoint began to manifest itself as Art Furniture - defined here as functional objects transformed through painting and sculpture.
The pieces are interactive in a practical, utilitarian way. Rather than being isolated on the wall, living with art that is functional allows for a continually changing and enriching relationship.
The outcome of this course of investigation is on view in the Art Furniture Gallery under two categories - works for sale and past works. I hope you enjoy.
